What is a Daily Deviation?
The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on deviantART.
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
The staff/volunteer members responsible for selecting submissions for the daily feature often are open to suggestions and individual community members may direct their attention by noting the appropriate Community Volunteer or staff member with a direct link to the deviation which you are suggesting and a brief description about why you think the work in question should be featured.
Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen?
A Daily Deviation is a feature, selected by Community Volunteers or Staff Members, from the galleries here on deviantART.
An assortment of submissions are chosen each day by this select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
Individual staff/volunteers may show different levels of activity which may lead to certain genres or types of artwork to be chosen more often than others. If you believe that a certain type of artwork is being overlooked or under-represented please feel free to offer suggestions by noting Moonbeam13. NOTE: Anyone can suggest a daily deviation and self-suggesting is not only allowed, but encouraged.
There is a "6-month rule" which means an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
If there is no one assigned to an area you want to suggest a DD to, please note Moonbeam13 with your DD suggestion.
Please only suggest to only ONE person, do not send the same suggestion to multiple people - it causes great confusion - Thank you!
How can I find out if someone already has a Daily Deviation?
In order to find out if someone has a Daily Deviation already all you need to do is go to their Gallery and select "All". From there simply scroll all the way to the bottom until you see "See Also: username's daily deviations". You can also add /dds to the end of their profile URL. username.deviantart.com/dds
(There are times when you might not like a particular DD, but before you leave a negative comment on the artist's page, please keep in mind that as stated above, the decision about which deviation will be featured is made by the CVs ONLY)
What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?
A Daily Deviation is intended to give an artist a chance to be seen by a large portion of the community and as not everyone has the same tastes, it is obvious that you may not appreciate every piece that is selected as a daily deviation.
If you have a problem with a particular Daily Deviation feature, do NOT leave your disapproval among the other comments on the piece. It is disrespectful to the artist featured, the person who chose it and/or the person that suggested it.
If you absolutely must voice your disapproval of a selected feature, feel free to note Moonbeam13 however, unless the image violates policy in some way, it is highly unlikely it will be removed.
Before sending your suggestion:
Make sure the artist is still “active”
Make sure the work you’re about to suggest belongs to the artist completely, and that resources are properly credited to their rightful owners in the deviation’s description.
Keep in mind that all deviations that contain 3rd party resources, such as stock images, music and other content that isn’t produced by the artist, must have the proper license and permissions (this goes also for Literature deviations that contain images, in this case, if the image belongs to the artist, it must be clarified in the deviation’s description)
Make sure you send your suggestion to the right CV. Please check the deviation’s category, under its name, then choose the right CV from this list, and check their guidelines here.
Before sending a suggestion, make sure that the deviant hasn't already received a Daily Deviation within the past 6 months. FAQ #313: How can I find out if someone already has a Daily Deviation?
Send the suggestion to only ONE CV, if they don’t answer or you don’t see the deviation featured within one month, you may suggest that piece to another CV within the same gallery.
Keep in mind the age of the piece, since most CVs seem to prefer to feature more recent works.
Send the CV a note with "DD Suggestion" in the subject line.
Please include the :thumbxxxxxxxx: for your suggestion.
Explain why you like it or why you think it deserves a DD!
If you don’t want your name to appear as the suggester, please say so in the note.
You are more than welcome to suggest yourself if you feel as if you deserve a DD. Don't be shy.
This to bear in mind when suggesting:
CVs cannot feature every single suggestion, so please don’t feel discouraged if they don’t accept some of your suggestions. Instead go for more!!!
Sometimes it happens that CVs might forget to include your name as the DD suggester, if that happens and you didn’t request to remain anonymous, please don’t forget to remain calm and polite, we’re all humans and mistakes like those are very easy to make. This is not a competition. You could try and send a little note to the CV, but before you do, please remember that you’re doing this so that the artist will get the very-well-deserved exposure of that feature, so you could by all means consider your mission accomplished and try to move onto the next suggestion!
