What is a Daily Deviation?

A Daily Deviation, (often abbreviated as "DD"), is a daily feature which has been chosen from the galleries of Deviants here on DeviantArt. A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of DA Staff/Community Volunteer members who wish to showcase a deviation which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the whole community.

The Staff/Community Volunteer (CV) members of DeviantArt responsible for selecting submissions for the daily feature are often open to suggestions, and individual deviants may direct their attention by noting the appropriate Community Volunteer or staff member with a direct link to the deviation which you are suggesting and a brief description about why you think the work in question deserves be featured. Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen?

Individual DA Staff/Community Volunteers may show different levels of activity which may lead to certain genres or types of artwork to be chosen more often than others. If you believe that a certain type of artwork is being overlooked or under-represented, then please feel free to offer suggestions by noting @Moonbeam13 or @Kovowolf. Anyone can suggest a daily deviation and self-suggestions are not only allowed, but encouraged, as it shows confidence in your own skills.

Guidelines:

There is a "6-month rule", which means that an artist cannot receive another DD if they have gotten one in the last 6 months.

Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.

If there is no one assigned to an area you want to suggest a DD to, please note @Moonbeam13 or @Kovowolf with your DD suggestion.

Please only suggest a DD to ONE person, do not send the same suggestion to multiple Staff/CVs as this causes great confusion! Thank you.

What can I do if I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?

A Daily Deviation is intended to give an artist a chance to be seen by a large portion of the community and as not everyone has the same tastes, it is obvious that you may not appreciate every piece that is selected as a Daily Deviation.

If you have a problem with a particular Daily Deviation feature, do NOT leave your disapproval among the other comments on the piece. Not only is it disrespectful to the artist who was featured, but to the person that suggested it, as well as the Staff/CV who featured it.

If you absolutely must voice your disapproval of a selected feature, please feel free to note @Moonbeam13 or @Kovowolf. However, unless the image violates policy in some way, it is highly unlikely it will be removed.

Before sending your suggestion:

Make sure the artist whose art you wish to suggest is still active on DA.

Make sure that the work you’re about to suggest belongs to the artist completely, and that any resources they have used are properly credited to their rightful owners in the deviation’s description.

Keep in mind that all deviations that contain 3rd party resources, such as stock images, music and other content that isn’t produced by the artist, must have the proper license and permissions. (This also applies to literature deviations that contain images, in this case, if the image belongs to the artist, it must be clarified in the deviation’s description).

Make sure you send your suggestion to the right CV. Please check the deviation’s category, under its name, then choose the right CV from this list.

After that:

Send the suggestion to only one CV, if they don’t answer or you don’t see the deviation featured within one month, you may suggest that piece to another CV within the same gallery.

Please keep in mind how recently the piece was uploaded, since most CVs seem to prefer featuring more recent works.

Send the CV a note with "DD Suggestion" as the subject line.

Please include the deviation link for your suggestion.

Explain why you like it or why you think it deserves a DD (optional)!

If you don’t want your name to appear as the suggester, please say so.

You are more than welcome to suggest yourself if you feel like you deserve a DD. Don't be shy!

Things to bear in mind when suggesting:

DA Staff/CVs cannot feature every single suggestion, so please don’t feel discouraged if they don’t accept some of your suggestions. Instead, go for more!

Sometimes it happens that CVs might forget to include your name as the DD suggester, if that happens and you didn’t request to remain anonymous, please don’t forget to remain calm and polite, we’re all humans and mistakes like those are very easy to make. This is not a competition. You could try and send a little note to the CV, but before you do, please remember that you’re doing this so that the artist will get the very-well-deserved exposure of that feature, so you could by all means consider your mission accomplished and try to move onto the next suggestion!
